Exciting opportunity is available within a highly respected not‑for‑profit organisation seeking an experienced  Accounting Lead to take ownership of core accounting operations, strengthen financial control, and enable better business outcomes through high-quality financial insight.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll lead day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring compliance, accuracy and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on leadership role with real opportunity to influence how finance supports the organisation.

Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Oversee general ledger integrity, reconciliations and balance sheet management
  • Deliver accurate and timely statutory and management reporting
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation obligations and regulatory requirements
  • Support audit processes, including preparation of documentation and liaison with auditors
Finance Operations & Process Improvement
  • Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
  • Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency and accuracy
  • Support system enhancements and optimisation of financial processes
  • Ensure data integrity across financial systems and reporting outputs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function
Business Partnering & Analysis
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities
  • Provide analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to improve financial understanding and performance
  • Assist in identifying risks, opportunities and cost efficiencies across the business
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor and develop accounting team members
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting matters and best practice
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team culture
  • Support capability uplift within the finance function
About You
 
You’re a technically strong accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative and evolving environment and enjoys both hands-on work and leading others.

  • Proven ability to lead change and continuous improvement
Essential Requirement
  • CA or CPA qualification
  • Proven experience in financial accounting, reporting and controls
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Experience leading or mentoring team members
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders across the business

Desriable
  • Experience in not-for-profit, government-funded or NDIS environments
  • Experience with Corporate Performance Management systems 
Eligibility
  • Rights to work in Australia
  • NSW Driver’s Licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Check (within 3 months)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
